The Masi Gran Criterium 1978
Imported by Joop Van Rossem in Wateringen in the Netherlands.
Was in very bad condition when purchased and has been professionally restored by M-Level (Dave Meirhaeghe, Ruiselede, Belgium).
The saddle Masi apparently liked to work with at the time is a Donelli saddle.
he 'L' at the bottom of the bracket (according to Alberto Masi - interview Bob Hovey) apparently comes from the first letter of the first name of a Vigorelli employee-frame builder Luciano.
Joop Van Rossem went to Italy every month, picked up bicycles there himself (Masi and De Rosa) and brought them to the Netherlands (personal conversation with Joop).
Two little anecdotes:
1. When I showed the Gran Criterium to Joop, the first thing he felt was the transition between rear fork and drop-out ... the master can be recognized by the tail ...
2. Alberto confirmed that this G.C. was made at his Vigorelli atelier in Milano
The front wheel was spoked radially, would have something to do with weight and aerodynamics.
A panto saddle and stem (3ttt was apparently also preferred by Alberto) and a Masi 3ttt handlebar.

Masi Gran Criterium 1978. Geïmporteerd door Joop Van Rossem in Wateringen. Was bij aankoop in heel slechte staat en werd professioneel gerestaureerd. Het zadel waar Masi blijkbaar toen graag mee werkte is een Donelli zadel. De 'L' aan de onderkant van het bracket komt (volgens Alberto Masi - interview Bob Hovey) blijkbaar van de eerste letter van de voornaam van een Vigorelli medewerker-framebouwer Luciano. Joop Van Rossem ging maandelijks naar Italië, haalde daar zelf fietsen op (Masi en De Rosa) en bracht ze mee naar Nederland (persoonlijk gesprek met Joop). Een kleine anekdote. Toen ik de Gran Criterium toonde aan Joop was het eerst wat hij deed voelen aan de overgang tussen achtervork en drop-out ... aan de staart herkent met de meester ... Het voorwiel werd radiaal gespaakt, zou iets te maken hebben met gewicht en aerodynamica.
Een panto zadel- en stuurpen (3ttt had blijkbaar ook de voorkeur bij Alberto) en een Masi 3ttt-stuur. Afgemonteerd met Super Record (eerste generatie).
